Disney pictures are up!

Dumbo

Just added Disney 08 pictures + a few pictures from Elise’s Girl Scout ceremony in early December. Some of the pictures are actually small videos, and almost all of those videos were taken on accident because even with several computer certifications I can’t figure out how to use my own digital camera.

I’ve uploaded pictures from different events in the month of October. You’ll find them in the gallery here.

At the Pumpkin Festival in Milton, Samera was in the beauty pageant and she won “Prettiest Smile!” You’ll also see pictures from our pumpkin carving and of the girls dressed up around the house and out for Trick or Treating. Finally, I took pictures yesterday at Elise’s school Halloween party. We’ve had a fun month and we’re looking forward to the holiday season ahead :)

First Day of School

August 28th, 2007

We’ve had an exciting 48 hours!

Yesterday afternoon we had a small, impromptu party for Elise at Mom’s house to celebrate her first day of school. We had Sponge Bob macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, and chocolate cake! Elise also got a few school supplies (all with Princesses, of course) as gifts. Olivia bought her some new hair accessories, which will really come in handy.

This morning was the big day! We got her up and dressed and off to school. She was so excited she wanted to leave the house 45 minutes too early. Mark and I did okay, I nearly started bawling in the classroom when she hugged me goodbye, but I held it in until we got to the car ;)

After school, we made chocolate chip cookies and she told us about her day (which wasn’t much — we know she made a friend, but she doesn’t remember the friend’s name or what she looked like, only that she had a My Little Pony backpack).

Then, this evening as she was getting ready for bed, she lost her second tooth! This time she didn’t swallow it and we have a tooth to present to the Tooth Fairy.

I’m uploading pictures of yesterday and today right now! Be sure to check them out!

Walt Disney World (The Intermission Post)

August 19th, 2007

I left off where? Tuesday? Obviously, I’ve got a lot more to post about our trip from the past 5 days or so. However, I am tired and so instead I’m uploading the remaining pictures to the gallery, and I’ll put some pictures on flickr that Elise took during our trip.

Full update coming soon, hopefully! We’ve had a great time!

Walt Disney World (Part I)

August 14th, 2007

Monday, August 13, 2007 6:00 AM

Hello from the floor of a room in the Walt Disney World Resort! I’m on the floor because I’m trying not to wake anyone else in my room up and this happens to be the best spot to hide the laptop light. While our flight and travel here was uneventful, we got in really late. Of course, it is impossible for me to sleep in, so up I am =)

I just learned that the cost of internet access here is on a daily basis, so I’m going to save all my entries for one long mega entry and post the pictures all at once, too, or at least in 2 day batches. I really wanted to update daily, but I must have read the hotel information incorrectly.

Today we are heading to The Magic Kingdom, with dinner reservations tonight at the Crystal Palace. I’m also hoping to get some pictures of this resort, it’s really beautiful. We ordered pizza to the room last night. It was either the best pepperoni pizza ever made or we were starving. Probably something in the middle.

5:15 PM (Still Monday)

We’re back at the hotel for a small siesta before going back out to the park. This morning we did a bit of shopping at the hotel gift shop for some autograph books. We also had breakfast here at the hotel.

Afterwards, we caught our bus to the Magic Kingdom! We started in Adventure Land with the Jungle Cruise (Elise sort of liked it, but made it clear she never wanted to go on it again), Aladdin’s Magic Carpet Ride (Elise LOVED it), Pirates of the Caribbean (Elise was mostly terrified, but grew to like it), then we split into two groups. Spike, Ed, and the boys went to Splash Mountain, which had an hour long queue. The other 7 of us went to Country Bear Jamboree, and that has probably been Elise’s favorite so far.

After a long, leisurely lunch we split up again. This time, Mark and I took the boys to wait in line at my favorite ride of all time, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, while everyone else retired to the hotel for a bit of pool time and rest before this evening’s adventures. Even though the line was long, the ride was worth it!

We timed our exit poorly though, we were heading back to the hotel just as the afternoon parade was ending and everyone else seemed to have the same siesta idea. By the time we returned to the hotel, it was already 4 PM and Elise was in the pool.

Right now, Samera is taking a much needed nap while Elise is playing with some of the loot she got after braving “Pirates.” We’ve got dinner reservations tonight at about 7 at the Crystal Palace, which is character dining so the girls will finally get to use those autograph books.

Tuesday, August 14, 2007 8:00 AM

Well, after a mad rush through the Magic Kingdom entrance, we finally made it to the Crystal Palace. The girls enjoyed meeting Eeyore, Piglet, and Tigger. And the food! I remember the food being great, but wow. I really need to learn how to make Basmati rice, because, yummmmm.

After dinner, we split into two groups again. The ladies took the girls to Fantasyland, and the boys went to Tomorrowland to try to gauge Space Mountain’s queue times. We took the girls on the carousel which they loved! Then, Samera went on the Dumbo ride while Elise got all sorts of goodies from my mom and aunt. We were close to the Tinkerbelle store so she got a great light-up tiara (“Shiny!”) and some jewelry to wear to the Pirates and Princesses party on Wednesday night.

Speaking of Wednesday, we originally had reservations for both girls to get their hair styled and up-do’d at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique just before the party on Wednesday. We decided to cancel that in favor of dinner reservations at Chef Mickey instead. The girls were okay with this decision because they want to meet Mickey!

We saw the fireworks at Magic Kingdom last night from a different angle than I’m used to. I managed to get some great pictures of it, though! Our new camera does pretty well for all that Disney offers visually.

After the fireworks, the group was whole again. We sat on the curb on Main Street and waited for the 11 PM Spectromagic Parade. It was amazing, as always! The girls, naturally, loved it. They waved at all the characters and there was one point where I’m pretty sure the Evil Queen from Snow White put a curse on me.

Both of the little girls passed out on the bus ride back to the hotel. They woke up briefly when we shuffled them inside, but it was lights out for our entire party. Yesterday was a long but fun-filled day.

Today’s plans are to get a late start at MGM and we’re having dinner there, too. Epcot has Extra Magic Hours tonight, so we (my sister, Mark, and I), might take the two teenagers to that so we can ride some non-kid rides J I’d really like to ride “Soarin’” before Elise does to gauge if I think she’ll be afraid of it. She is generally not bothered by heights, so I think she’ll be okay.

Anyway! That’s it for now. There are 140-some pictures in the gallery, starting from our airport wait to the parade last night. If you want access to the gallery but don’t have it, please request it and I’ll approve the request (well, if I want you to have access, that is. ;) )

Elise the photographer

August 10th, 2007

Hey, all. I just uploaded a bunch of pictures that Elise took with her camera to the Flickr gallery. Most were taken here in the house, but a few were from Camden Park. It’s hard to tell in the pictures what they are of, but she still did a pretty good job :)

We’re leaving for Disney on Sunday and we’re so excited! Hopefully, Elise will get a lot of photography practice as she takes pictures around WDW with her camera.

Bye Bye Baby Teeth

August 5th, 2007

Three new pictures in the gallery: Elise and her missing tooth. Yes! Elise lost her first baby tooth tonight. It has been loose all week and threatening to come out. This morning, she asked for some apple, and that forced it into an uncomfortable 90° position. She wouldn’t let me pull it, so we just did our best to manage the pain and keep her happy for the day.

Then, this evening, she was eating a chewy granola bar and out it came! She was excited when she told me, but then started crying because she swallowed it. Once we explained that it was no big deal, she was pleased with herself once again. She called a few different people on the phone to tell them about it.

We put a note for the Tooth Fairy in Elise’s tooth-pillow that she’s had since she was only a few months old. I can’t wait for her to discover that she’s been left a little cash in the morning. =)

Our Weekend

July 29th, 2007

New pictures from this weekend so far uploaded to the gallery under the ‘Weekends‘ album.

Here’s what we did: Last night, we tried to go to the Charleston Ribfest with my parents, sister, and niece. A huge thunderstorm erupted just as we arrived, so then we went to CiCi’s Pizza. When we got there, we found out that a water main had busted so they couldn’t serve any pizza. So, we drove back to Cross Lanes (where we had begun in the first place), and had dinner at Pizza Hut. The entire night was a comedy of errors.

Upon arriving home, we discovered a leak in our roof above the family room. We’re going to call a roofer on Monday and hope for the best.

Today was action packed. We started with breakfast at Mom’s, then we cleaned out Mom’s SUV (since it’s the largest), and 6 of us: Myself, my sister, my niece, my brother, Mark, and Elise all climbed in and we drove to Camden Park. We had a lot of fun! I was surprised at how many of the rides Elise wanted to go on. She even begged to go on the swan-shaped paddle boats, and she’s afraid of boat rides in general.

After we were done with the park and my camera battery was running low, we went to Outback Steakhouse and ate our weight in food. To-do: look up the recipe for their Macaroni & Cheese and the Zesty Tomato salad dressing or whatever it was.

Tomorrow Ed is coming over to help Mark put down tile in our now-carpeted laundry room. After that, we’re hoping to finish off the weekend with some relaxation.

New Blog

July 26th, 2007

Everyone needs 4 blogs. *cough*

Eriemarie.com was lacking in content. So, here we go! This will not be updated much, though I plan to use it to document our upcoming trip to Disneyworld. I’ve also installed a gallery, which will have some password protected elements for sharing pictures with friends and family.

My brief bio: I’m a late 20-something, married with one daughter. I’m currently completing my Bachelor’s Degree in IT. I like to read, listen to music from the 90s, watch movies, and pretend I don’t like soap operas.  I’m a casual gamer playing on the Feathermoon World of Warcraft server mostly, though I have a few others scattered about different servers.
